Bruce Joseph Young, 68, of Noblesville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 31, 2017. He was born in Indianapolis on April 7, 1949, to Harold and Jean (Hinton) Young. He married Betty Jane (B.J.) Larsen on July 30, 2011. His parents preceded him in death, as did his brother Steve, his infant brother Greg, and just recently his sister Jean (Betsy).
Bruce attended Scecina High School and graduated from Arlington High School in 1967. He was a proud Vietnam-era Army veteran who served in Freiburg, Germany. For over forty years, he worked in the elevator industry as a highly respected elevator constructor and adjustor. Before and during retirement, he taught numerous classes in the IUEC Local 34 Apprenticeship Program. He retired in 2005 from Metro Elevator Company, having also worked for Kone, Montgomery, Fairhall, and Home Elevator Companies throughout his career.
He was an avid sailor, race fan, and Civil War buff. Music and laughter were mainstays of his everyday life, and he adored his grandchildren. Bruce led by example, modeling honesty, integrity, and loyalty. He proudly spent less than he earned and could quote the exact cost of his favorite chili-dog made-at-home lunch. He delighted in his labradoodle Ballou and his tuxedo cat George, who will be lost without him.
Bruce is survived by his wife, B.J.; son Paul Young; daughter Christy (Jim) Riddle; and stepsons Gregory Gallup and Dane Larsen. Also surviving are seven grandchildren—Kaitlyn and Abbie Riddle; and Anna, Maya, and Sam Young. Bruce has six surviving siblings—Phil (Leslie), Jeff (Kathy), Kathy (Ed) McKinley, Kevin (Sally), David (Susie), and Marcia (Bob) Specht. In addition, he is survived by brother-in-law Gary (Betsy) Myers and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Two infant grandchildren also predeceased him.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 West 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46260, followed by the funeral service at 4:00 PM.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, 46278.

I regrettably have not stayed in contact with some of my family, and as I get older, I regret it more and more. Bruce was always one of the nicest, funny, incredibly tall, hard working, and caring men in our family. I am so far removed, I didn’t even know of his struggle. I wish I could have been more connected, and could have been there to support my family. Please know, even though I was not there, I never forgot you guys. I am so sorry for your loss. Bruce was, and always will be, in my eyes, a great man, and an even greater role model! I hope you will find comfort in the many great memories of Uncle Bruce!
